SPMT 250 - Sport Analytics (Fall)


COURSE DESCRIPTION 

This course is intended for undergraduate students in sport management to develop a basic understanding of the analytics in the sports industry. The role of analytics is continually increasing in the global sports industry, students need to understand how analytics are for performance, business, and fan engagement analysis and decision making. 

 

Theory, development, and application of analytics in sports for purposes of player performance, team management/operations, team valuation, social media analysis, sponsorship metrics, and fantasy competitions.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

After successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1.    Apply critical thinking and problem solving to decisions based on analytics
2.    Gain a basic understanding of statistical concepts and their application in the sports industry
3.    Understand and apply various data acquisition techniques
4.    Apply basic data processing and analysis techniques
5.    Interpret marketing and purchase based evidence used by sports organizations
